Kick Your Ass Idea #125 – Sprint!

Did you watch the coverage of the 2012 Olympics? If you did, you’ve seen some of the amazing athletes and you know that years of concentrated practice can help you become almost superhuman. But even if you’re not destined to win gold in Rio in 2016, you can shake up your personal routine by running sprints!

You could probably walk 100 meters in about 1.2 minutes. The world record for running that far is around 9.92 seconds. So why not go out and see how much you can shave off your time? You might be able to go from a normal walk to a speed approaching the world record. Try it three times in a row, 3 times a week, and keep at it for 3 months. We’re betting that most able-bodied people would be a lot closer to the world record than to walking speed by the end of the 3 months.

The video shows me running my first 100 yard dash on a track at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After shooting the video, I ran full out three times. My times were 20.10 seconds, 18.43 seconds, and 18.17 seconds. I think I can cut at least 2 seconds off this time.

Why don’t you try it? You might get in a lot better shape. You might find out you like running. A lot. And you might just get your ass totally kicked into gear!
