I did most of my studying for the Michigan Bar Exam at Biggby Coffee in East Lansing. In those days, it was called Beaners – until someone pointed out that the term might not be helping them get a lot of repeat customers among Latinos!
My routine for 3 months was to study for about 90 minutes, then take a break and walk to the adjacent park and shoot free throws for 15 minutes. Considering that I’m 5’6″ and that I played basketball only one season in 4th grade (where I kept my end of the bench from leaving the ground quite nicely, thank you), the fact that my record ended up being 63 consecutive free throws seems quite remarkable.
Until you consider Fred Newman, the 60 year old guy who holds the world record – 209 consecutive free throws! You can watch an excerpt of his record setting video on Youtube by clicking these words – Kick Ass Free Throws.
What makes free throw shooting a kick ass activity? It’s a simple, repeatable activity that doesn’t cost a lot to do, one that you can research extensively on the interwebs, it gets you moving, and you get a warm fuzzy feeling all over when you get dialed in and sink your first 10-shot streak without miss.
