Ever wondered what the secret to success is? Of course you have. And it seems a lot of people are ready to tell you. There are over 16,000 books about success on Amazon, for starters. If you listen to some of the biggies, it’s all about making that big decision. Brian Tracy
is often quoted as saying “I found every single successful person I’ve ever spoken to had a turning point. The turning point was when they made a clear, specific unequivocal decision that they were going to achieve success. Some people make that decision at 15 and some people make it at 50, and most people never make it at all.” Napoleon Hill, the wise old grampaw of all success gurus and author of Think and Grow Rich
said “Accurate analysis of over 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure, disclosed the fact that LACK OF DECISION was near the head of the list of the 30 major causes of FAILURE.” And there’s an interesting book called When They Were 22: 100 Famous People at the Turning Point in Their Lives
, which tells the stories of people ranging from Dr. Seuss to David Hasselhoff, and the big decision they made that changed their life. On the other hand, you have fellows like Malcolm Gladwell claiming – as he does in Outliers: The Story of Success
– that it takes a lot of hard work to be successful. About 10,000 hours of it, to be more specific. So which is it? Making a decision? Or working hard? Well, I imagine it’s probably both, but you’ll never find out until you finally DECIDE to commit to something. I double dog dare you to do it today.
